All students involved with the Unified Sports program. There will be practice after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:15 to 3:00 in the large Gym.

 

Want to learn self defense techniques?  The martial arts club is offering a 6 week course on Thursdays from 7 – 9pm in room 183.  Interested staff and students should sign up with Mr. McKenney.

 

It’s March.  And that can only mean one thing…..Harbingers 2nd annual Bracket Challenge.  Pick up your men’s college basketball bracket in the café during all lunch waves on Tues &  Wed.  All brackets must be returned by 4th lunch wave on Wed to be counted.  Try your luck for chance at a worthy prize.

 

Stop Watching and Start Writing!  It's time for you to show the world or just you’re writing friends, you a can write a great screen play!  April is Script Frenzy month, and Papyrus and Quills members are meeting on this Thursday after school in room 230.to prepare for this national event. 

 

Yearbooks are still on sale for just $65 and can be purchased from any yearbook staff member.  Limited quantities will be available at the end of the year.

 

ATTENTION ANYONE PLANNING ON PLAYING FOOTBALL: There will be a very important football meeting on Wednesday March 17th in the cafe at 2:15.  This meeting is important for equipment ordering and equipment distribution if you plan on playing football in the spring or fall.

 

All Boys' tennis candidates must report to Room 219 for a meeting after school this Wednesday, March 17."

 

Do you like playing games? Do you have luck when it comes to cards?  If so, then join the Italian Club on Wednesday, March 17 at 2:15 in room 139 for an afternoon of Italian style card games.  Both skill and luck are required for these games.  All are welcome!

 

A representative from Lincoln Tech will be in the Career Center on Wednesday, March 17th, at 9:00 a.m. to speak to students who are interested in automotive or skilled trades. Sign up in the Guidance Office.

 

Any girl interested in playing golf should attend a brief meeting after school on Thursday March 18th in the main gym.

 

In celebration of St.patrick's day this week come and join the Art Club on Thursday and practice drawing celtic knots with a guide to help you. You can use your design to make a clay pendant or ceramic plate in the weeks ahead.  The club meets every Thursday from 2:15-3:30 in room 161. New members are always welcome and please feel free to bring a friend.

 

ALL BOYS AND GIRLS interested in joining the track & field teams please join us in the Main Gym at 2:15 on Thursday March 18th.   This will be our last meeting before the season starts On March 22nd. This is an important meeting the coaches want to meet all team members and give out information about the season if you have any Questions please see coach Redman

 

Circle of Friends is holding it's kick-off event Thursday the 18th. We will be in the small cafeteria from 2:15-3:30. Bring your friends and be prepared to listen to music, eat pizza, meet new people, and get involved in a great new program at MHS. See Ms. Gray or Mr. Oberlander with questions.

 

All students taking AP classes must register and pay for their AP exams in the Guidance Office, room 117 by 3/19/10.  The fee is $86.00 per exam and checks should be made payable to MHS.

 

"There will be meetings of the Young Men's Leadership Group this Friday March 19th during periods 2 and 4. Grades 9 & 10 will meet during period 2 and Grades 11 & 12 during period 4. Both meetings will take place in room 168"

 

Attention all Harry Potter fans:  The next meeting of the Harry Potter Book Club will take place on Friday, March 19 at 2:10 in room 217. 

 

If you want something fun and exciting to do after school this Friday, come to the Unified Sports Basketball Tournament from 3:00 to 6:00. Teams from the surrounding area will get together and compete where everyone's a winner.

Barnum.  And I am here to tell you that on our very own stage, you are going to see every sight, wonder and miracle that name stands for.  Join us for "Barnum" on Thursday, March 18 at 7:00 pm, and Friday and Saturday, March 19 & 20 at 8:00 pm.  Tickets are $8 and can be purchased from cast members or from Miss Lister in the English Department or from Mr. Tyler in Performing Arts.  Join the Circus, like you've wanted to...

 

The MHS Driver Education department announces its last class offering during the school year.  This is an evening session beginning Monday, March 22.  Classes will be held from 6-8pm on Mondays and Thursdays for 8 weeks.  Registration forms are available in the main office or in guidance.  Our next class will be in July.  See Mr. Rashaw or Mr. Vousden for additional information.

Attention Juniors and Seniors.  Are you interested in receiving college credit this summer?  If you are a good student, Goodwin College is offering a partnership program.  If you are interested in being part of the Goodwin College Partnership program please see Mr.. Snuffer in the guidance office.

 

The Connecticut Historical Society is offering a summer Teen Enrichment Program for students entering grades 10-12.  This is a 4-week program focused on history and museum work.  Financial assistance is available. Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.

 

Attention Junior Golfers - Apply to play in the Kennedy Center's 19th Annual Charity Golf Classic.  Post-secondary scholarships will be awarded to male & female student golfers.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office or from the Athletic Director.

 

Syracuse University has 10 full scholarships for African American men or women interested in studying architecture.  Please contact Mark Robbins, Dean, School of Architecture at (315)443-2256 for more information.

 

Delta Kappa Gamma Society - 3 scholarships are available.  One for a senior planning to pursue a degree in Music Education, one for a minority student planning to major in education, and one for a senior planning to major in teaching communications.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline - 3/18/10.

The Connecticut Chapter of American Association of Blacks in Energy Scholarship - Minority students majoring in business, sciences or technology, academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and community service.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office. Deadline - 3/19/10.

Hood Good Sport Scholarship - Graduating high school student athletes who participated in a varsity sport, will be attending an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university in the fall, has a 3.0 GPA and community service.  Information and applications are online only at: www.hood.com.  Deadline - 3/19/10.

 

The US Army National Guard will be visiting the Career Center on 3/24/10 at 10:00 a.m.  Sign up in the Guidance Office.

 

The Humane Society of the United States Shaw-Worth Scholarship - For a New England high school senior who has made a meaningful contribution to animal protection over a significant period of time.  More information is available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline - 3/25/10.

Connecticut Building Congress Scholarship fund - Graduating high school seniors entering college-level programs architecture, engineering, construction management or other courses leading to a degree in the construction field.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline - 3/30/10.

 

 Northeast Family Federal Credit Union Scholarship - Must be a credit union member, have a 2.5 gpa and be enrolled in an accredited post-secondary educational institution.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline - 3/31/10.

 

Auxiliary of Manchester Memorial Hospital Scholarship - Graduating seniors who are pursuing further education in the medical field.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline - 3/31/10.

 

The Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship - High school seniors who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline - 3/31/10.

 

MassMutual Scholars Career Pathways Program - Up to $20,000.  Graduating seniors who demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing a career in business, financial services or information technology.  Students can attend any accredited college in MA, CT, Bryant University in RI, or RPI in Troy, NY.  Apply online only at: www.communityfoundation.org.  Deadline 3/31/10.

 

CBCC Foundation Cindy Dimenstein Memorial Scholarship - High school senior who is a resident of Connecticut, enrolling in a program of further education in the fall and has been affected in some way by breast cancer.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline 3/31/10.

 

SBM Charitable Foundation Scholarship - Graduating senior in the top 40% of class attending an accredited college or university in Connecticut.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline 3/31/10.

 

National Association of Women in Construction Scholarship - Any Student (male or Female) pursuing a degree in construction, construction management, architecture, or civil, mechanical, structural, or electrical engineering.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline 3/31/10.

 

 Association of Retired Teachers Glenn Moon Scholarship - Graduating high school seniors who plan to pursue teaching careers.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline - 3/31/10.

 

The Isodore Wise Scholarship Program - High school seniors who are a present or former patient/student of Connecticut Children's Medical Center, and will be attending an accredited post-secondary undergraduate institution in the fall of 2010.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline - 3/31/10.

 

American Savings Foundation Scholars Program - An independent nonprofit organization serving 64 towns central Connecticut.  Information and applications are available online at: www.asfdn.org.  Deadline 3/31/10.

 

Society of Women Engineers scholarship - Female high school seniors planning to attend a 2 or 4-year college, majoring in science, engineering, or related field.  Students must attend a college in the SWE Hartford Boundaries.  Information and applications are available at. www.swe.org/RegionF/sections/hartford.  Deadline - 3/31/10.

 

Zeta Phi Beta Scholarship - Female high school seniors.  Financial need, academics.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline 3/31/10.

 

Cox Cable Advisory Council Scholarship - Students majoring in audio, video or film, have volunteered, worked or utilized a public access facility and live in the Manchester area.  Information and applications area available in the Guidance Office or online at: www.ccacouncil.com.  The deadline has been extended to 3/31/10.

 

North Central Conservation District Scholarships - High school seniors who have been accepted in a college or university with plans to study agriculture or natural resources.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline - 4/1/10.

 

The Career Center is organizing a field trip to UCONN Medical Center in Farmington on April 1, 2010.  Students interested in medical careers are encouraged to attend.  Limited spots are available.  Permission slips are available in the Career Center and on the MHS web site. 

 

Edward J. & Elsie K. Sweeney Memorial Scholarship - MHS graduating senior who is planning to enroll in a full-time course of study at an accredited 2 or -year college, university or vocational-technical school in the fall of 2010.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline 4/1/10.

 

UConn's Explore Engineering Program - This one week residential program is for current 10th and 11th graders.  Work with faculty and engineering students to learn what various engineers do in the workplace. Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline - 4/2/10.

 

National Association for College Admission Counseling is hosting a Free College Fair at the Connecticut Expo Center on Thursday, April 8th and Friday, April 9th.  Information is available in the Guidance Office.

 

UConn Health Center Pre-college Enrichment Program (PCEP) - A six week summer program at UConn for current high school seniors who will be entering UConn in the fall of 2010 and have indicated a interest in medicine, dental or biomedical research.  Information and applications are available in the Career Center or Guidance Office.  Deadline - 4/9/10.

 

Manchester Scholarship Foundation - Graduating seniors who are Manchester residents, accepted to a college, university, community college or other post secondary school full time for the fall of 2010, ranked in the top 65% of the class, and financial need.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline - 4/9/10.

Hispanic American Cultural Council Scholarship - High school seniors who were descended from Spanish-speaking ancestry.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline - 4/15/10.

 

Disabled Workers' Scholarship - High school senior who is the child of a worker totally disabled in the workplace, must have been a workplace injury, and lives in Connecticut.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline - 4/15/10.

 

NARL (Newington Amateur Radio League) Scholarship - Graduating senior, a resident of a community represented in NARL membership, attending an accredited 2 or 4-year college, and studying in the fields of science, computer technology, math, engineering, communications, or a related field.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline - 4/15/10.

USA Dance Scholarship - High school seniors who are residents of Connecticut, involved in ball room dancing, and attending a four-year college or University or an accredited 2-year associates program.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline - 4/17/10.

 

Alpha Kappa Alpha Scholarship - Any female high school senior who resides in Greater Hartford or Middletown, CT, attends a public high school, intends to enter college in the Fall of 2010, and is not immediate family of any Alpha Kappa Alpha member.  Information & applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline - 4/17/2010.

 

Rensselaer's Design Your Future Day program for talented high school junior girls will be held on Saturday, April 17th.  This program is free to high school girls and their parents/guardians who attend and is designed to support the national effort to increase the number of women pursuing careers in engineering, science and technology.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office or online at: www.eng.rpi.edu/dyfd.

 

Connecticut Parks Association Inc. The University of Hartford College Now program is designed to provide outstanding high school seniors the opportunity to enroll in one college course per semester on a tuition free basis.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  The fall semester will begin on 8/31/10.  Deadline for application is 4/23/10.
